Gay and Lesbian Leadership Awards

Musicians perform at the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Awards in DCThe Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award Series consists of two spectacular annual events, one in New York City and one in Washington, DC.  The centerpiece of each event is the presentation of a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award to a high-profile LGBT leader or ally who has made a difference in the LGBT movement.  Past awardees have included:

  • Dale Frederiksen – Lewis Underwood Award
  • Bob Page – Lewis Underwood Award
  • Sheryl Swoopes – Olivia Leadership Award
  • Florida Congressman Kendrick Meek – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2007
  • Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank - presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2007
  • Chicago Mayor Richard Daley – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • Governor Jon Corzine – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • Senator Tom Daschle – presented with the annual Oates Shrum Award in 2005
  • Dr. Joseph Duffey – presented with the Annual Oates Shrum Award in 2003
  • Leo Hindery, Jr. – presented with the Annual Oates Shrum Award in 2002
  • Senator Edward Kennedy – presented with the Annual Oates Shrum Award in 2004
  • Commissioner Patricia Lancaster – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • Representative Gregory Meeks – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • John Meeks – presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • NYC City Council Speaker Christine Quinn  - presented with a Gay & Lesbian Leadership Award in 2005
  • Marylouise Oates - presented with the inaugural Oates Shrum Award in 2001
  • Congressman Charlie Rangel – presented with the Annual Oates Shrum Award in 2006
  • Bob Shrum – presented with the inaugural Oates Shrum Award in 2001
