Micah Kellner became the first openly bisexual member of the New York General Assembly in a Special Election back in June of 2007. Fourteen days later, Micah cast what he calls, the vote that he will always remember as his most important, a vote affirming the passage of marriage equality legislation in New York. Micah is in an extremely Democratic district and no primary opponents have surfaced to challenge him. Micah will take his successful approach of building a coalition of progressive endorsements to ensure that he will not be challenged in the Democratic primary. We must continue to stand with Kellner to ensure that the New York State Legislature continues to have a total of five openly LGBT members. Governor Spitzer has made marriage equality one of his marriage goals during his tenure as governor. With openly LGBT legislators, like Micah, our community can maintain its strong voice for equality in the debate.
