Mark Ferrandino is the first openly gay man to serve in the Colorado State House of Representatives, and, if re-elected, will become the first openly gay man to win an election to the state legislature. He was appointed to the Colorado State House of Representatives in September 2007 and is now running as an incumbent. He is the clear front-runner in this race and is working hard to ensure that he is sent back to the state legislature, where he will fight for our community and the rights of all LGBT citizens in Colorado. For three years prior to this appointment, Ferrandino served as Treasurer for the Colorado Democratic Party. In this role, Ferrandino assisted and supported several candidates throughout the state. He has served on the Board of the National Stonewall Democrats, and was Co-Chair of the Colorado Stonewall Democrats from 2005-2007. Ferrandino understands the need for openly LGBT voices in his state, especially because of elected officials like Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, one the most vehemently anti-gay voices in Congress. As a volunteer, he has phone banked, canvassed and raised money for openly LGBT candidates in Colorado, including 2007 Victory Fund-endorsed candidates, Karen Kellen and Darrell Watson. Mark has been involved in the Baker Historic Neighborhood Association, volunteered for the Denver Democrats, and has worked with several LGBT organizations, which include the local gay & lesbian center and the Alexander Foundation.
