Christine Kaufmann faces a competitive race to retain her
State Senate seat representing Montana’s
District 41. While Montana
is known to be a conservative state, Kaufmann’s district is one of the most Democratic,
having supported John Kerry in 2004 and opposed the state’s anti-gay marriage
amendment.
Christine is one of three out gay elected officials in Montana, and the only
openly gay official in the State Senate. She served four terms in the Montana House of
Representatives before being appointed to the Senate to fill a vacancy. In
addition to her work as a Senator, she has also served as the director of
Montana Human Rights Network since 1992. Christine has been very active as a
volunteer on various boards and nonprofit organizations whose missions focus on
LGBT rights, environmental issues and reproductive rights. She has also
actively worked for policy changes for all of these organizations as a member
of Montana’s
House.
Christine is in a great position to keep her position in the
Montana State Senate. She won a competitive primary race and now faces a Republican challenger in the general election. With your generous support, will continue serving as a
progressive voice in Montana.
