Marko Liias was only born in 1981, but he has already
emerged as a rising star in Washington politics. After winning a seat on the
Mukilteo City Council in 2005, Marko succeeded Rep. Brian Sullivan in
representing the state’s twenty-first district in January.
During his short tenure, he has already supported the LGBT
community by co-sponsoring a bill that expands the list of rights afforded to
couples that register as domestic partners.
"It really shouldn't matter where you come from on a
political spectrum; it's about making sure that everybody has an equal
opportunity in our society to succeed. Rights and responsibilities of our
families shouldn't be a political issue," he
told HeraldNet.
In addition to his LGBT advocacy, Marko serves on the
national board for the National Association of Homebuilders and is a member of
Built Green of King and Snohomish Counties. He has been endorsed by the local
firefighters union and the mayors of Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood.
The Republican party is targeting Democratic legislative appointees
seeking re-election. Marko has assembled an experienced campaign team but he
needs to raise money to run an effective campaign, so make a donation today to
support him.
