Long time Democratic activist Sue Schafer has a history of working across the political spectrum in order to help her community progress into the future.
Sue’s experience reflects upon her character of being a problem solver. She currently serves on the Wheat Ridge Planning Commission and has done work for local Chambers of Commerce across the area. As a result of her previous teaching career, Sue is a former Colorado State Director of Curriculum at the Colorado State Department of Education. Sue was also appointed to the Executive Board of the Colorado High School Activities Association and is active in the Colorado Association of School Executives.
Sue’s primary is in early August, which makes the general election campaign a short but vigorous one. The district seat is open due to term limits and the outgoing incumbent supports her candidacy. In addition, she has the backing of state Rep. Sara Gagliardi from Arvada and Denver area state Rep. Mark Ferrandino. Sue is actively obtaining the endorsement of mayor’s from the two largest cities in the district, both of whom are Republicans.
Based on her background in education and economic development, there is no doubt that Sue will make a great Colorado State Representative. However, she faces primary and general election opponents and there are two conservative-issue ballot initiatives in Colorado that could have an impact in the district she is running in. With your help, Sue Schafer will achieve victory and make history in Colorado as being the first open lesbian elected official in the State House District 24.
