After years of service on the Palm Springs City Council and two years as the city’s mayor, Steve Pougnet hopes to represent Californian's 45th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.  He'd join Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin and Jared Polis as the only openly gay Members of Congress.

Steve has assembled a skilled campaign team and gathered the support of powerful players in California politics. He’s built coalitions through his service as chairman of the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) and CVAG’s Energy and Water Conservation Committee.

Steve is a popular mayor who enjoys broad bipartisan support. The issues he advocates for are ones that resonates with his district – job creation, renewable and alternative energy solutions, and green tech opportunities.

A proud father of twins he is raising with his partner, Steve is actively involved with LGBT groups such as Lambda Legal, the Family Equality Council, the Human Rights Campaign and Equality California.

While the United States is poised to make great strides in the coming years in regards to LGBT rights, there remains a huge imbalance in the number of out members of Congress in office. Steve’s election would bring the LGBT community one step closer to having proportional representation in Congress. Your contribution to Steve’s campaign is vital to achieving this goal.
