A former two-term mayor of Providence, R.I., David Cicilline was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, becoming the fourth openly LGBT member of Congress and just the seventh LGBT person in U.S. history to serve openly on Capitol Hill.

Cicilline brings years of legislative and executive government experience to Washington, but his status as an openly gay man has significantly expanded the LGBT community's voice in the federal legislative process.

On the night Cicilline won the crowded Democratic primary, he took a moment to thank the Victory Fund. "I'm grateful that the Victory Fund and their supporters believed in my campaign. Together we really can change politics and make sure that all Americans have a voice in their government," Cicilline said.

We are proud to stand with this accomplished out leader who's representing not only the 1st Congressional District in Rhode Island, but also the hopes and dreams of LGBT Americans across the country who deserve a place at the table and a voice in their government.
