Position Overview

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, identifies and equips LGBT leaders for success in elected and appointed public office. The Victory Institute's programming assists hundreds of individuals in politics, government, business and advocacy each year.

 

Responsibilities

The Victory Institute intern's work will support the following the Victory Institute programs:

 

  • Leadership Impact / Out Officials
    This program tracks the accomplishments of openly LGBT elected and appointed officials to convey the power of having openly LGBT people in office. The intern monitors significant accomplishments through news and helps maintain the Out Officials searchable web database.

  • Victory Congressional Internship
    The VCI brings at least five outstanding LGBTQ college students to Washington, D.C., for an intensive summer leadership program, including an eight-week Congressional internship and a structured curriculum to learn about the legislative process and careers in the policy-making process. The the Victory Institute intern will help coordinate logistical aspects of this program.

  • Presidential Appointments Project
    This project helps openly LGBT professionals get appointed to full-time positions as well as boards, commissions and advisory committees throughout the executive branch of the federal government. The intern will help screen applicants, identify candidates for specific positions, and think creatively about outreach to new applicants.

  • International LGBT Leadership Conference
    Each year the conference brings together hundreds of LGBT officials and other policy makers and offers a unique leadership development and networking experience. The intern will assist in many of the logistical aspects of the conference.

  • Other duties as necessary.

 

Qualifications

The intern should demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, creative thinking and independent project management. Solid grasp of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is necessary.

The internship requires a creative thinker who enjoys the challenge of organizing information in a concise and understandable manner and can find solutions to problems as they arise in the course of maintaining a system of gathering and organizing data.

Full-time candidates preferred.
