The Iowa legislature has approved a bill adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the state's nondiscrimination laws. Gov. Chet Culver said he will sign the measure. Openly gay state Sen. Matt McCoy has led the fight to protect Iowa's LGBT citizens. Earlier this session, McCoy was instrumental in the passage of a bill that would protect LGBT students from bullying in public schools.
