WASHINGTON, DC--June 5, 2007--The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund congratulated Micah Kellner on his election to the New York State Assembly in a special election today.  Kellner, a 28 year-old Democrat who is openly bisexual, will represent District 65, which includes parts of New York City's Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island.  Victory Fund President and CEO Chuck Wolfe issued the following statement:

"Micah will be a strong voice and a committed lawmaker for the people of New York in the State Assembly.  His victory means that five openly gay, lesbian or bisexual lawmakers will now serve in the Assembly and the Senate, and that is excellent news for everyone who works toward full equality for all New Yorkers.  We are proud to have endorsed and supported Micah's campaign."

Current openly LGBT lawmakers in the New York legislature include:
  • Senator Tom Duane, 27th District
  • Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell, 69th District
  • Assembly Member Deborah Glick, 66th District
  • Assembly Member Matthew Titone, 61st District
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is the nation's largest LGBT political action committee and the only national organization dedicated to increasing the number of openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elected officials at all levels of government.  Since 1991, the Victory Fund has helped grow the number of openly LGBT elected officials in the  U.S. from 49 to more than 370.  Roughly 22% of all Americans are represented by an openly LGBT elected official.  For
