Fri, May 2nd 2008, 09:56

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund recently released its annual report, revealing that nearly 90 percent of the organization's budget went directly to training and support for LGBT candidates.

The report, available online at www.victoryfund.org/2007_report, also gives information about the organization's accomplishments in 2007.

These milestones include:

  • Joel Burns won his Forth Worth City Council race despite snide attacks by a sitting Councilmember
  • Keith Durbin became the first openly gay man ever elected in Tennessee as a Nashville City Councilmember
  • Brian Bates became the first openly gay Republican ever elected in the South after winning a seat on the Doraville, Georgia City Council.
  • Denise Simmons became the nation’s first openly lesbian African-American mayor.
