Christopher Cabaldon gets endorsement of California Democrats
Mon, Mar 31st 2008, 14:51West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon picked up a key endorsement from the California Democratic party Saturday at the state Democratic convention in San Jose, in the race for the 8th Assembly District.
The 8th Assembly District includes the cities of Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, Suisun City, Rio Vista, Benicia, Davis, Woodland, Winters and West Sacramento.
Delegates voted 29 to 13 for Cabaldon in the race for the June Primaries.
Mariko Yamada, who was endorsed by the Northern Solano Democratic Club was on the losing end of that vote. Yamada is on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.
"I'm ready to move forward," Yamada said after the vote. "I feel great. I'm very glad that 89,000 Democrats will have the chance to vote in the primary election in June."
Cabaldon's endorsement didn't come without some controversy.
It is believed that Cabaldon spent campaign money to encourage supporters to join the Democratic Club by paying for their membership.
"I believe he did not respect the core issues of the Democratic Party," Yamada said. "Out of the respect of the Democratic Party I felt it was my responsibility to challenge the endorsement."
