Biography
Ryan is the former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. He was the first openly gay person elected to the position. He was unable to run for re-election in 2022 due to term limits. After leaving elected office, he served as an advisor to Governor Janet Mills. During his time in the legislature from 2014-2022, he also served as the Maine House Assistant Majority Leader and as Chair of the Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research, and Economic Development.
